How to choose a broadband provider
The choice of UK broadband providers is endless,
read our top 5 best broadband
providers to find the best one to suit you.
Broadband providers vary, some of the more unheard
of providers often have downtime (problems with connection),
so it is essential you find the best one to suit your
needs. If it's just email and casual surfing you're
after, then it may be better and cheaper to go for an
account which is restricted on bandwidth, or if gaming
and downloading is your thing, unlimited use accounts
are more value for money.
Broadband speeds are getting faster too, up to 8MB broadband is offered now from most internet providers, however, some do restrict your download limits so be sure to read the small print, unlimited broadband packages are usually a more economical option for heavy use.
If it's business broadband you're
after, then look no further than our business broadband
guide, this offers you the cheapest broadband deals
for businesses, as well as the most reliable services
- there's nothing worse than having important emails
that need replying to, and an unreliable broadband provider
who's service is up and down all the time.

Switching your broadband to a new provider (ISP)
If
you're currently with a broadband provider that you're
not happy with, it's easy to switch. As you're phone
line is already activated you won't need to pay out
for line activiation again, here's what to do:
- Ask your current broadband provider for a MAC key,
this is a unique key for your phone line. This MAC
key is usually only valid for 30 days, so it's important
to use it within a month.
- Call your current broadband provider and tell them
you're moving to a cheaper/better service
- Signup online to a new broadband account (top 5
providers listed here), during
this registration process you will be asked to enter
the MAC key to swap your broadband.
- Your new internet service provider will then give
you a date in which your new account will be activated.
Usually there is minimum downtime between providers,
but this varies between ISPs.
